Mill Operations Sr Training Officer
Position Overview: The incumbent is responsible for establishing, implementing and coordinating the Process Plant training and safety programs to ensure a safe competent and productive workforce. These duties will entail training supervision of the comminution circuits which include ore and limestone crushing and grinding circuits, CIL/refinery, cyanide destruction, lime plant and tailings deposition activities. The incumbent will ensure proper safety and environmental management systems are followed as well as organizing employee training activities. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Construction Phase: · In collaboration with the safety department, perform a risk assessment of the operations, including tasks, workplaces and equipment with the goal of determining the critical tasks and workplaces. This will be the foundation for the creation of the standard operating procedures and the schedule of task observations and workplace inspections. · Establish with the Mill Superintendent, safety and training standards that will pertain to the process plant. · Willingness to write and organize mill operational and safety procedures. · Incorporate the environmental management system as part of the operator training. · Provide guidance to the Mill Superintendent which relates to training guidelines, training implementation as well as training scheduling. · Direct involvement and implementation of the CBT " computer based training for mill operations personnel. · Interact with the HR department, to identify training and progression of crushing / grinding, CIL/carbon stripping, lime plant, cyanide destruction and tailings showing operation and supervisory training requirements. · Take a leading role in actively monitoring and implementing plant operator training and progression. With the General Supervisor, and supervisors determine the training needs for personnel development. · Incorporate the environmental management system as part of the operator training. · Review the control strategies and participate in the development of the programming of the DCS and control systems. Identify the training requirements for operations personnel of this system. During the pre " commissioning and operations phase: · Involvement in the commissioning strategy and the incumbent will be part of the commissioning team as to help train operations personnel with proper techniques relating to start up procedures. Also advise the commissioning team of vendor specific training requirements. · Report progress of personnel safety and training during the commissioning activities and environmental obligations. · Lead and implement the safety and training programs, including the development of the Risk management, Standard Operating Procedures, (SOP’s), Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s), Workplace Inspections, Task Observations and Training programs. · The training program will entail in-depth recording of the activities and reports submitted to the Mill Superintendent on a weekly basis. · Coordinate, in collaboration with the maintenance department, as it relates to process personnel safety and training. · In collaboration with other department training professionals to achieve efficient and common training perspective · Effectively supervise the training personnel to ensure effective delivery of training and safety programs. · Closely monitor the progress of training participants to ensure satisfactory performance is met with regards to the development of competent personnel and the requirements of management. · Review all aspects of the training and safety activities to identify areas that can improve the continuity of the operation. · Conduct performance evaluations as it relates to safety and training. · Perform safety and training budgetary requirements · Build a team of Process Plant training personnel. Supervisory requirements · Supervision of two safety and training field trainers. Qualifications To perform the job required, the person must follow the above mentioned outline. The incumbent shall try to accommodate persons, in a reasonable fashion, who have disabilities to perform essential tasks. The incumbent also, has to open minded towards a persons needs. Education: Preferably a post secondary diploma / degree - relating to, Mineral Processing, Personnel Development or Occupational Safety and Training is preferred. Experience: 10 years experience in processing plants at a supervisory level which relates to safety and training. Must have practical experience in the following: crushing; sag mill / ball mill grinding; carbon in leach and gold refining, lime crushing, lime kilns, lime slaking, cyanide destruction, tailings management and environmental control. General knowledge of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation/process control is required. Vast experience in setting up training programs and safety procedures. Working in foreign countries is preferred. Skills and Abilities: Experience should demonstrate ability to lead, train and develop others, maintaining good working relationships, excellent work ethics and practice good safety and environmental practices. Willing to travel as required. Above average communication skills in English and Spanish.
